Most people are aware that I love Unix/Linux and open source. I have used Linux and Open Source for more than 16 years.

Some years ago, I had the privilege to meet and talk to Linus Benedict Torvalds (Linux and Git creator).

Back in 2007, I created a company in Brazil/Spain to provide real world solutions based on open source.

Later, I worked at Pentaho, an open source big data, business intelligence and data mining company sold to Hitachi (the reason probably was because of Pentaho’s open source portfolio of products and solutions).

Going back to the past (2 June, 2005) I found this BBC article:

“But I think free software will encourage Mr Gates to reinvent his business. The world of technology is opening up; there are hundreds of thousands of people working to improve free software. The old, closed model must adapt in order to survive.”

I still remember when I saw the picture below, I loved it.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella says Microsoft loves Linux.

See below, some texts extractions from this article here.

Nadella told Wired that he’s not interested in fighting old battles — especially, when, like it or not, Linux has become a vital part of today’s business technology. “If you don’t jump on the new,” he said, you don’t survive.”

It’s not just Linux that Microsoft loves. After decades of resistance, Microsoft supports a variety of open-source programs such as the big data Hadoop ; Docker containers ; and Facebook’s Open Compute datacenter project . Indeed, Microsoft is even open-sourcing more of its own technologies such as parts of .Net .

My personal experience working at Microsoft

I joined Microsoft on January, 2020, before I was working for 2 years at a Microsoft and Accenture company called Avanade.

In the last 3 years, heavily using Azure, I was using a lot of open source running on Azure and that’s amazing. Another great acquisition from Microsoft was GitHub.

I believe that we all can change and Microsoft is changing.

We live in a world where we all have to share and collaborate, Linux, Git and open source are the future.

Let’s make our customers successful.
